My biggest advice here is to be very weary of packing too many things into your day with real little ones. Not only the heat but also the humidity in the summer months can wipe the best of us out. So bring lots of water and plan for delays. Scheduling rest times are a good idea too.
Have you seen the hand held fans that squirt water? Another lifesaver for parents of the very young! (PS... it's great for mom and dad too! When we are out to eat, I put ice cubes in it to keep the water refreshing and cool.)
